THE BAND:
This band is quite different to my first one, except two guitarists in this band were in my previous HND band. In this band there is 3 guitarists (2 guys and 1 girl), One drummer who is actually from HND 2 because we didn't have enough drummers in HND 1, Two singers (1 guy and 1 girl), and obviously me the bassist. So far we get on well, we don't communicate as much at the moment but we work well in learning songs together. Working in a band of 7 (6 excluding me) will help me a lot because it is harder to work with more people because i have to communicate more and "connect" more as a band.
THE GENRE:
The new genre we have to do is FUNK! It is probably one of the most funnest genre for me. I really enjoy playing funk because it uses the bass technique slapping. For me it is also very complex and uses the bass guitar A LOT.
We all think this is a really fun genre and are all perfectly capable of playing and enjoying the genre. We all know that the drums and bass have to be so connected and prominent. That is what we are trying to do. Also trying to get the "funk feel" will be tough but as the drummer has done it so much he is fine with it and i really enjoy playing funk (biggest inspiration for funk is Red Hot Chili Peppers) so i wont struggle as much as i thought i would.
THE SONG:
The song we have chosen is Shaky Grounds by Delbert McClinton, very funky! We got the hang of this song pretty quickly. One of our guitarists all ready sort of knew the song so he told me what the main notes were and i had to sort out the bass line, he also told the other guitarists what to do
Well the main advantages would be, i really enjoy this genre so it will be extremely fun. It will help me really develop the feel for the "funk". It will give me a chance to play funk and slapping infront of an audience and get some feedback on my playing. My confidence yet again will be improving ever second. Also being with new people will help me learn about bands and a musicians lifestyle.
The disadvantages would be, i can't learn the songs quickly, one because there is no tabs and two because it will take me a lot longer than one week to ear learn this piece.
